Cumulus is about movement, evolution, and transformation—just like clouds. It’s not just about furniture but about how forms shift, how light and shadows play, and how things are always in flux. Nothing stays the same, and that’s what makes it interesting.
Cumulus Thinking as a process, a way of working that’s never static. It’s about constantly developing ideas, experimenting with materials, and letting designs take shape organically. There’s no rigid structure—just an ongoing exploration of form, texture, and space. Every piece carries that sense of change, of something fluid yet intentional.
Cumulus evolving —expanding into a wider range of products and furniture, exploring different materials, and collaborating with other artists. It’s about building a language that grows, adapts, and takes on new dimensions, always embracing the idea of transformation.

In'ei Tables
The hand-made Ceramic & Brass table
conceptualised as a collaboration between product and interior designer Khushali Chawda & Ceramic Artist Moneshi Shah.
In’ei meaning shadow, the table takes inspiration from the essay, “In praise of Shadows by Jun’ichirō Tanizaki that highlights the importance of dim light and shadow in the Japanese lifestyle.
Is a harmonious blend of artistry and craftsmanship. The base is meticulously crafted using the traditional Japanese Kurinuki carving technique, where the legs are carved directly from a
solid block of clay, each cut and groove made with intentional care. This method imparts a unique, organic texture, allowing the natural beauty of the clay to shine through, and creating a one-of-a-kind form for each piece. The table is crowned with a solid brass top, 6 mm thick, cut from a single sheet. This brass surface adds a touch of luxury, its smooth, reflective quality contrasting
beautifully with the earthy rugged texture of the Kurinuki-carved ceramic base forming the perfect marriage of juxtaposition. Fired at high temperatures, the ceramic ensures durability, while the brass top, rich with natural warmth and character, completes the piece.
More than mere furniture, this table becomes a vessel of art—an invitation to pause, to connect, and to revel in timeless craftsmanship that grounds us to the earth.

The clay responds to each movement, capturing the essence of the artisan’s hand. This intimate process results in a unique, one-of-a-kind
creation that exudes a rustic, wabi-sabi charm — a Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in
imperfection and impermanence.
When applied to table design, Kurinuki carving ensures that no two legs or components are
exactly alike, enhancing the table’s handcrafted, artisanal appeal.
The technique also allows for deep, expressive cuts and textures, giving the table a tactile, sculptural quality that contrasts beautifully with smoother surfaces, such as a solid brass top. The result is a piece that beautifully marries the raw, organic beauty of clay with the enduring
craftsmanship of handmade design.
